I received this project a few days ago, and found it really interesting. The project is a 60 minute long Sci-Fi story, expressed using hip-hop as a medium rather than a movie or a book. It does have a strong literary feel and takes its inspiration from “Alice In Wonderland,” “Star Wars” and the works of Edgar Allen Poe.
The story follows a young boy, who goes to escape from the bullies at school by playing video games in an arcade but soon finds himself in a twisted shadow world. Presenting a really interesting plot-line to be expressed by the lyrics of the extremely creative and talented SumKid and the beats of Brooklyn-Based producer BadTouch.
Despite the fact that I receive a lot of submissions, and don’t usually have time to listen to them all (although I do welcome them, and do my best to get through them all) this one really stood out and delivered, I would highly recommend it.
This isn’t a new tape, but I only discovered it yesterday, and I’ve been listening to it since, so I thought I’d post it for anyone else who missed out on it. Tracklist and download after the jump… [Read More..]
The new mixtape from Tyga dropped unexpectedly (to me anyway) last night. Unfortunately it is only 43 mins in length and is mostly freestyles, however it is worth the download, I just probably won’t revisit it as much as “Black Thoughts.”
