Cory Gunz follows up his MTV reality series, with a mixtape of the same title, boasting 25 tracks with features from Schoolboy Q, Gudda Gudda, Juicy J, 2 Chainz, Kid Ink, Meek Mill and Mack Maine as well as production from Nottz, Dot N Pro, Jahlil Beats, Cardiak and more. I haven’t listened to this in full yet, but am certainly looking forward to doing so (if only it had no tags though!)

After announcing the title a while back, Lil B dropped his latest album out of nowhere on Itunes the other night, and after a good reception, is now giving it away for free alongside the following statement…

CUZ I LOVE YOU IF YOU DONT HAVE 10 DOLLERS TO BUY MY NEW PROJECT HERE IT GOES FOR FREE- Lil B !!!

Although I’m not usually a fan of Lil B’s work, I think people might be surprised with this one. It’s worth checking out, even if only for the production.

I also read an interesting article over at the Arts Desk discussing this album and how Lil B has formed his career around breaking down hip-hop stereotypes (although I certainly wouldn’t go as far as considering whether this might be a “classic” as this writer has).

As usual I’m away for the weekend, so won’t be posting much. But before I leave I had to post this to ensure that everyone purchases Kendrick Lamar’s highly anticipated latest release, which really is as good as I’d hoped for. Cop this, and enjoy your weekend!

Section.80 – Kendrick Lamar

I’d be interested in hearing peoples opinions on this one. Music from the North East of England (where I’m from). Rick Fury is my favourite emcee in the area right now, and although I’m not a huge follower of the local scene, I really enjoyed what I heard of this album and thought it would be worth sharing here. This one is for fans of a darker underground boom bap sound; just straight lyrical wordplay and thumping beats.

Something I’m particularly interested in is, does the accent provide a barrier to people who aren’t from the area?

After dropping a few cuts over the past few weeks, Thoth lets loose of his Statik Selektah presented project entitled simply Volume 1. The project boasts a good line-up of collaborators including Raekwon, Guilty Simpson, Mistah F.A.B., Danny Brown, Termanology, Planet Asia and OhNo, with the likes of Swiff D, Cook Classics and !llmind handling production…

If like me you’ve been seeing the name of upcoming Jersey-based rapper The ILLZ everywhere, but haven’t checked out his music yet. Then this seems like the place for us to stop sleeping, and check out this collection of his most essential tracks so far, presented in collaboration with DJ Booth.

After flicking through the tracks, this definitely seems worth a listen. I’ll be playing this one on my Ipod tomorrow!
