Tuesday marked J Dilla’s birthday and tomorrow is the anniversary of his untimely passing, so to pay his respects, Willie The Kid drops an EP collecting all of his freestyles using instrumentals by the legendary Detroit producer. Stay tuned for more Dilla posts tomorrow!

Yesterday when we were celebrating the lives of J Dilla and Big Pun sadly another talent passed ahead of their time. While I won’t pretend she had the impact of the formerly mentioned artists, sadly many won’t even know the young songstresses name. Alori, who was only 25 years old, contributed to all of the Top Dawg Ent albums (on stand out tracks such as “HiiiPoWeR” with Kendrick Lamar, “Phenomenon” with SchoolBoy Q and “More Of A Euphoria” with Ab-Soul) and this is likely what she will be remembered by many for.

I’d like to point people’s attention, however, toward her excellent solo album, The Love Religion which, while I won’t pretend I’ve had on repeat since it dropped back in November, I’ve had a good few listens to, and will continue to revisit it.

A couple of years back production team Cookin’ Soul dropped this mixtape paying homage to the two legends pairing Pun’s raps with Dilla instrumentals. If only they’d had the chance to work on some original material together!

I’ve never heard of Seattle’s Fatal Lucciauno before, but with a new EP of 11 new tracks produced by Rhymesayer’s producer Jake One, I’m about to get familiar! This project serves as a prelude to his Respect LP which drops on the 21st of this month.

Apparently when Spitta woke up on the morning of the Super Bowl he decided he should put out an EP and ended up recording five new tracks (over existing instrumentals however) last night after watching Stephen King’s Cat’s Eye which he then released as the Here… EP. You’ve got to respect his work ethic at the very least!
