After briefly revisiting Mr. Jones’ music back in the Summer it’s good to see him coming out with a new single. Given the current trends set by the likes of ASAP Rocky and their Houston influence, this should be a good time for the Swishahouse representer (who has been rumoured to be in talks with Roc Nation) to strike!
More raw Brooklyn rap from one of my favourite new talents of the year, Mr Muthafuckin’ eXquire, who is set to follow up to his Lost In Translation LP with the brilliantly-titled Merry eX-Mas and Suck My Dick on Christmas day. From the strength of this record and the last project, this is going to be a Christmas gift to look forward to!

Whether it be in different lifestyles or background, musical genres or mediums, hip-hop music and culture has become a wide spread art form and mind-set that has gone on to influence artists working beyond simply beats and rhymes.
Recently, when given the chance to interview genre-merging double act The Ting Tings, known best for their number one new-wave hit ‘That’s Not My Name’, I wasn’t entirely sure how to approach keeping it relevant to the site. However, as I researched more and more, it became obvious that the rhythmic pop band who have recently found themselves under the guidance of Jay-Z’s Roc Nation management company, have taken a lot of influence from hip-hop; from drum patterns, to vocal arrangements as well as their attitude to constructing material.
I met up with them before their recent show in Newcastle to talk about their love of The Beastie Boy’s Paul’s Boutique album, the influence of hip-hop on their music, the ‘playlist mentality’ of consuming music and their deal with Roc Nation…

As regular visitors probably know, I’m not generally looking out for material from 50, but after a return to form last week with his new mixtape, The Big 10, I’ll be trying to keep up! Since Friday, the G-Unit General has released three video’s from the project, the first featuring the newly signed Paris above, and the others after the jump. It’s likely that we will have seven more coming over the next couple of weeks…
