Phil Ade – #PhilAdeFriday2 (Mixtape)
Dec 2011 31

For a special end-of-year edition of Phil Ade’s weekly series, he collects all of the tracks he’s dropped so far in a handy mixtape format (which is good if you haven’t been keeping up, as I haven’t) including his ‘Deadlines’ track which I posted a while back

Tracklist and download after the jump…

Dopehead – Plaid Palm Trees (Mixtape)
Dec 2011 30

As I’ve mentioned before, I’ve been having a great time over the holidays catching up on all the music I’ve missed out on over the year for whatever reason, and some real gems have been emerging. A project that passed under my radar back in October was Danny Brown affiliate, Dopehead (commonly described as a slightly more chilled version of Brown himself) with his newest mixtape of all original music entitled Plaid Palm Trees. I first the heard Detroit native on Danny’s ‘Bruiser Brigade’ (from his XXX effort) and went on to check out his Dope Head Musick Vol.1 mixtape, but this new tape really took him to the next level in my opinion. To check out the project, as well as a set of visuals, hit the jump for tracklist and download…

It’s been great to see New York making a comeback over the past year with some fresh raw talent; some of whom played the Highline Ballroom earlier this week. The line up looked amazing; check out Dallas Penn’s footage of Action Bronson above, then hit the jump for footage of some of the other performances courtesy of ToneRiggz…

Behind the scenes footage of Raekwon working on the first leak from his upcoming mixtape, Unexpected Victory which should be dropping on Sunday (if there are no further delays…)

Fam-Lay – Clap Clap
Dec 2011 29

The beat (produced by Nana Rogues) sounds very reminiscent of Rick Ross’ ‘John Doe’ (which isn’t a bad thing in my book) on the latest single from, Norfolk, VA rapper, Fam-Lay’s upcoming project Turn Your Brain Off which we expect to hear more from early in the new year. To support, head here to purchase the single from Itunes…

Freddie Gibbs – Cold Day In Hell (Lyrics Book)
Dec 2011 29

With all of the digital downloading we do these days it is rare that we ever get a chance to flick through a lyric book whilst we try to decipher our favourite artist’s work; so it’s great when artists take the time to put them out alongside a digital release, as Freddie Gibbs has to accompany his Cold Day In Hell project which dropped on Halloween. Download the lyric book in pdf format below, and if you didn’t get the album yet, grab it here…

Sean Falyon – Cake
Dec 2011 29

Sean Falyon’s ‘No Beat Is SAFE’ campaign continues, with his take on a cut from Rihanna’s latest LP, Talk That Talk. Hopefully these will be collected at some point, and when they are it will make for a great listen! In the meantime keep checking out the loose tracks, as they are worth it every time…

Dec 2011 28

Before I head off to sleep; a video for a track by Jedi Nemesis, produced by Edinburgh’s Rarest Element who is definitely one to watch out for in the New Year. The beats that I get in my inbox from this guy are crazy. Look out for his production album sometime in 2012, and Jedi Nemesis’ new mixtape, Merge Layers (which includes this track) will be available tomorrow…

B.o.B (feat. Andre 3000) – Play The Guitar
Dec 2011 28

Andre 3000 drops off his last (I’m assuming) feature of 2011; hopefully we can get a new solo LP from him next year. B.o.B handles himself well on this cut too, shame we can’t get more of this and less ‘Airplanes’, lets hope his sophomore LP reflects his talent better than his debut!

‘Play The Guitar’ is available on Itunes now!
