A great slice of Houston hip-hop from Boss Hogg Outlaw, Le$ with local legends Killa Kyleon and Paul Wall on the guest verses…
While I can’t pretend that I’m was a huge fan of Heavy D (I admittedly never did my research) I understand his importance in the game with regards to the people he has inspired, the most famous undoubtedly being Biggie (and his shout-out in ‘Juicy’). Obviously, as when anyone passes away, it’s a tragic thing and great to see celebrations of the person’s legacy, such as this one courtesy of Don Cannon and Mars (of 1500 Or Nothin’) which is great if you want to reminisce on Heavy D’s career, or if you’re like me, catch up to it!
R.I.P Heavy D.

The Three Six Mafia general and newest member of the Taylor Gang (he announced this week that he’s signed to the label) put out his highly anticipated new mixtape last night, featuring features from the likes of ASAP Rocky, SpaceGhostPurrp, Wiz Khalifa, 2 Chainz, Alley Boy, Casey Veggies, Project Pat, Kreayshawn (unfortunately) and more. West Coast rapper, Skeme, drops off his second project of the year, almost out of the blue and without any fuss. Hopefully he can continue dropping music like this and expand his profile even more into 2012.

Another great choice for an in-depth interview courtesy of Madrid’s Redbull Music Academy, this time with one of the most exciting new hip-hop producers; New Jersey’s Clams Casino, known for his ethereal productions that have gained him a name working with artists such as ASAP Rocky, Havoc of Mobb Deep, Lil B, Soulja Boy, Mac Miller and more, as well as solo instrumental work.
New visuals from King Thurz’s L.A. Riot project, another of the many outstanding projects that came out from the West Coast this year. If you’re still sleeping on that I’d highly recommend checking it out…
When I first heard “DOPE” I knew we had to capture the vibe that THURZ and producer THX had created. I found the song to be very addictive, so it was an obvious decision to create a visual trick that was hard to turn your eyes away from. Given the songs almost chant like manner, the plan was to use the trick repetitiously, but in as many inventive and exciting ways as possible.
Despite the videos sleek presentation, I wanted the shooting process to be spontaneous and rough around the edges, which meant getting back to the personal experience I felt when I started filmmaking in high school, when it was just me and a camera.
My hope is that people will enjoy the video just as much as I have, which means watching it multiple times in a row!

The man of the moment gets his own episode of Pitchfork.TV’s ‘Selector’ which sees him take to a mall in Queens to hang out and get an interview in the Funtopia arcade, have a game of laser tag with the rest of the ASAP Mob and culminates in the crew freestyling over “You Lookin’ Twice” by Nurses.

One of the best albums of the year is now available for stream over at NPR. Definitely worth your time, despite being only 39 minutes in length the album feels a lot more wholesome than most, telling the story of Redford Stevens (played by Black Thought), a ghetto kid from Philly who becomes victim to the drug trade, and following him to the bitter end over an amazing score produced by Questlove and the rest of the band.
New visuals from Schoolboy Q’s second project of the year, Habits & Contradictions, which I’m highly anticipating, and is reported to be dropping in December…
