Now under two weeks to go until the “Science Of Speech” tour dates, and today’s throwback comes from De La’s critically acclaimed debut album 3 Feet High and Rising

Previous Throwbacks: Eric B & Rakim – “Paid In Full”, Talib Kweli – “Get By”, Eric B & Rakim – “Microphone Fiend” Mos Def – “Brooklyn (Original)”, De La Soul – “Stakes Is High”, Mos Def – “Ms. Fat Booty”

After causing a stir online with their Chris Brown cover last week, the engaged couple ended up with so much publicity that they ended up performing the track on the Ellen Degeneres show. Now they are back to take on the almost impossible task of performing Lil’ Wayne’s single, and even more difficult, it’s Cory Gunz verse!

Cons continues to attack the G.O.O.D family, this time with a video attacking ‘Ye personally, and a diss track over a dope unreleased Kanye production which will be featured on his upcoming Movies On Demand 3.

He also released the following statement…

I use to hear the term “TroubleMaker” and equate it as something negative. I now regard it as a term of endearment. With that being said, if what you’re about to witness makes me a “TROUBLEMAKER” then indeed… It’s time to start some TROUBLE. The moments depicted in this clip have been in front of US all along. I hate to be the “Bearer of Bad News” but Movies On Demand 3 will be the MOST CONTROVERSIAL project that Hip-Hop has seen in some time. – Cons

I understand Consequences anger at the situation, but can’t help feeling that he could handle it in a more dignified way than this. That being said, I’m looking forward to hearing the mixtape, and wonder if Kanye will respond…

Evolution Festival: Newcastle, UK (Preview)
Apr 2011 27

Although there is no straight hip-hop, like last year’s outstanding performance from De La Soul, at this year’s Evolution festival, there are still enough “hip-hop influenced” (I hate the word “urban” to describe music) acts to make it worth attending for a hip-hop fan. I personally am most anticipating a performance from Spank Rock, the Baltimore Club duo behind 2006′s excellent YoYoYoYoYo album, which infuses electro, hip-hop and rock. The most obvious act for hip-hop fans is Tinie Tempah, who after releasing commercial hits like “Pass Out,” “Frisky,” and “Written In The Stars”, is at the forefront of pushing UK “urban” music over in the US, and will be playing the main stage on Sunday alongside acts like Plan B and Example, both of whom released solid hip-hop albums before evolving their sounds toward soul and electro respectively. Another act to look forward to on the Sunday main stage is The Cuban Brothers, whose performance infuses music, comedy and dance, with roots in the UK b-boy scene.

Aside from the main stages is the UMT (Urban Music Training): Emerging Stage which has a diverse range of emerging artists, many of them definitely worth watching, including the likes of XTN (a young rapper from Middlesbrough, who has been making waves in the UK industry, including a feature on MTV) and Supanice (Geordie Rapper who loves nothing more than the city of Newcastle) on the Saturday, and Baron Von Alias (a time-traveller from the 1800′s who looks at concocting new styles within his music, blurring the line between commercial and underground) and The Projekt (a Hip Hop trio from Newcastle who cite the lack of money as their main influence) on the Sunday.

For more information, including booking tickets check out the Evolution website…

Keep checking back to HipHopFiend for more news on the “urban” side of Evolution, and afterwards for some review content, and hopefully a few interviews…

With the holiday weekend, and the launch of our new sister site, I’ve missed a couple of days from my “Science Of Speech” throwback series. Tonight it’s back with Rakim’s most famous track, which is also the title track from his and Eric B’s most acclaimed album (although I prefer Follow The Leader myself.)

Previous Throwbacks: Talib Kweli – “Get By”, Eric B & Rakim – “Microphone Fiend” Mos Def – “Brooklyn (Original)”, De La Soul – “Stakes Is High”, Mos Def – “Ms. Fat Booty”

Fonzworth Bentley – C.O.L.O.U.R.S (Mixtape)
Apr 2011 27

Better late than never… The lead single from this project dropped back in 2008, and features Kanye West and Andre 3000. Cool Outrageous Lovers Of Uniquely Raw Style, is the extended name of the tape, and it seems worth a listen, since it includes features from Faith Evans, UGK and Lil Wayne (as well as, of course, Kanye and Andre) not to mention the dope cover art. Lets see if it’s worth the wait…
