My Top 25 Underground Hip Hop Music Videos for 2010:
1. Diabolic ft Immortal Technique – Frontlines
This is my favorite music video from the year 2010. I thought Joey Poms did an unbelievable job with this video. Diabolic slayed it and Immortal Technique dropped one of the sickest verses of his entire career. This is everything that underground Hip Hop is supposed to be. This song makes me wanna go stomp somebody out right now!!
2. Vinnie Paz ft Shara Worden – Keep Movin On
A video like this deserves every bit to be on MTV. I know this joint was on the MTVu “The Freshmen” and I think it got beat out by some ridiculous group that no one has ever heard of. I honestly think MTV rigged the contest to keep artists like Vinnie off their airwaves, which is an utter disgrace to Hip Hop, because I don’t think there’s anybody in the underground game right now with a bigger worldwide following than Jedi Mind Tricks. This is a really classy video and a great inspirational song. Good job to everyone involved.
3. Snowgoons ft Lord Lhus, Sean Strange, Psych Ward & Sicknature – Global Domination
This isn’t the only video that you’ll be seeing from Reel Wolf Productions, as I think their work is excellent. This is definitely the cream of the crop for their music videos/short films. Excellent banger. Sean Strange steals the show. Also peep the homie DJ Illegal destroying folks with an RPG at the end.
4. Jon Murdock & Lex Starwind – The War Is On
Alterprod directed this video. Its really gritty and fits the vibe of the track perfectly. Jon Murdock and Lex Starwind are a breath of fresh air for Lost Children of Babylon, they really brought a new dynamic to that group. Those 2 dudes are truly spitting and getting it in, I really like this track, it’s one of my favorite joints from 2010. I look forward to hearing more from them.
5. Ill Bill – Ill BillTV
Another excellent video from Reel Wolf Productions. This video is so epic that Ill Bill doesn’t even need to be in it. Basically this dude is running from some illuminati goons because he’s in possession of the new Muggs/Ill Bill album. I love it. This has a big budget action film feel. I would watch 2 hours of this, easily. A+
6. Snowgoons ft Freestyle (of The Arsonists) – Snowgoons Dynasty
This is my favorite track off Snowgoons new album, “Kraftwerk”. Freestyle BURIED this. This is the intro to the album and it truly set the tone. The video is simple, just Freestyle kickin his verse in the streets of France, and I believe Alterprod did this video too, another excellent editing job by them.
7. Celph Titled & Buckwild ft RA The Rugged Man – Mad Ammo
This is everything I miss about the 1990s. Nineteen Ninety Now is a really dope album. I’m really not a huge fan of Celph Titled, but it doesn’t get much better than Buckwild on the production, and Rugged Man does his thing on here too. I also like the scene where they’re in the rave, good stuff. They got the whole “I Love The 90s” VH1 spoof going on. I’m really feeling this. It takes me back to a better time!
8. Vinnie Paz ft RA The Rugged – Nosebleed
This joint is INSANE. I honestly thought this was one of the more average joints on Season of The Assassin, definitely a banger, but to a lesser extent than other tracks. However, the video turned out really good. You know what to expect from Paz & RA.
9. Tech N9ne – Show Me A God
Some will argue that Tech N9ne isn’t underground anymore and he’s more of an indie giant/mainstream artist, especially with his recent collaboration invitation from Lil Wayne. But honestly, Tech deserves to get some mainstream recognition. This is a guy who’s been putting in work since the early 90s. I have nothing but respect for him and that’s why he makes my list with this joint.
10. Dr. iLL ft Avarice – Payasos (Powder Remix)
Darren Wilbanks does an excellent job with this video. Out of all of the videos from our crew, this is definitely one of the cleanest in my book. Powder KILLED the beat for this remix and if you look, you might be able to catch a quick Mark Deez cameo or two in this video haha. Nah but forreal this joint is seriously ill and that’s why its on my list, whether or not I was involved in it or not. Great vid.
11. Sean Strange – Walk The Line
I still haven’t had a chance to peep Sean Strange’s Street Urchin album, but its definitely on my priority list. This is probably the most complete joint I’ve heard from him. This track is really dope and heartfelt. Keep up the good work, Strange!
12. Canibus – Only Slaves D.R.E.A.M.
This is the first Canibus music video in a couple of years and for that fact alone, it makes my list, because Bis is one of my favorite emcees of all-time. I think some of the scenes could’ve been done a bit better, but overall its a dope video, and I appreciate the concept. This song is really sick and it also has the same sample as “Suplex” on AOTP’s album, but I think the beat Bis rocked to is much better. Dope track.
13. RA The Rugged Man – Uncommon Valor
Its odd that a video for this comes out like 4 years after the original track released, and its only RA’s verse with no Paz, BUT, I can’t complain because it is a Reel Wolf video and their work is insane. Definitely feeling it. Good work. Creative. Intense. and a bit over the top!! Good combination.
14. Brotha Lynch Hung ft C-Lim & G-Macc – Colostomy Bag
You don’t see many Brotha Lynch videos these days, it looks like he shot 3 videos in 1 day or something when he did a series of videos for his new album, and I think this is the best video and the best song. Its some of that west coast horrorcore. He’s one of the only horrorcore artists I can even listen to. Also G-Macc is really sick!!
15. Killah Priest – Shadows
This is the only animated film that makes my top 25, I thought it was really unique and different and I am a huge fan of Priest’s work, always dope to see him dropping a new album!!!
16. The HRSMN – This Shit Right Here
The animations by Guerilla Press mixed in with video scenes from Ras Kass & Canibus are really dope. I wish Killah Priest & Kurupt would’ve done some scenes for this, but its all good, Guerilla Press made it work. This song is ILL and I would love to get a video done by them, their stuff is sick.
17. Block McCloud – Crazy Man
This is one of my favorite joints of 2010 because Block is not only a hell of an emcee but is also a really dope singer, I heard his pops was a salsa singer, so I guess the voice runs in the family, which is good to know. Crazy Man is a WILD video hahahaha the scenes of him and the mannequins had me trippin out. Good stuff Block!
18. Lord Lhus – Triple Threat
Another epic video from Reel Wolf. I wasn’t feeling the first song in the triple threat that much, honestly, I think the CGI could’ve been done better as I’ve seen better work from them, but it is what it is. The 2nd joint, Pray Hard, is one of my favorite songs Lhus has ever done and the video scenes for that are really sick, some of my favorite work that Lhus has had done visually. Also the 3rd portion of the video cracks me up everytime. Lhus is playing a game of chess with Satan and he proceeds to call him a “mainstream motherfucker”… EPIC
19. Psych Ward & Lord Lhus – Slang Bangas
This was shot around the same time as some of the other videos Lhus did while in Canada, except by 7Sky. I like this video because its gritty and it captures the surrounding environment very well. The scenes in the snow are really sick.
20. Powder aka Casey Jones – Flowers/Stimulate
I shot this video and its my favorite video that I’ve shot. I wish I had a better computer workstation for video editing and once I do it’ll only make my videos better, but I think the environment of this video is great. It starts off as somewhat of a horror/grindhouse type of feel then as it transitions into the 2nd song its more of a “one with nature”, atmospheric vibe, all shot in Lexington, SC!
21. Wyze Mindz – Reach Out
Excellent video from Wyze Mindz. Always dope to see Apacalypze & Unkn?wn destroying tracks. Their album, World Meltdown, is one of my favorite projects from 2010, so go cop that. I especially like the homeless guy in the middle of the video freestyling about listening to the birds, listening to your soul, and listening to the rock n roll, only in the South!!!
22. Mark Deez – Lady In The Waterfall
This was the first music video I ever did. I had fun. That’s about all I can say about it.
23. Godilla – Judge Dred
Godilla is comic book loving Predator. You can’t fuck with the Jaguar Paw!!! Respect. Peace to Easton, PA!
24. Klive Kraven – Underworld Explorer
This is my favorite video from Klive. The camera quality isn’t the best but he makes it work. Its got a horror feel to it as well. Klive’s got blood all over him and stuff hahaha the beat is so sick too and he’s ripping it. Props to Klive and the whole Goldminded Records crew.
25. Reef The Lost Cauze ft Bloodsport – Trigger Talk
This is honestly not the best video from Reef and Bloodsport must’ve been drunk because he misses mad words in this video, but its all good, this is one of those posted on the street corner type of joints and that’s why I like it. If you want to see a great video from Reef look up “I Wonder”… I just included this because I needed something to close out the list with!!!
