I feel like as though I’m losing my mind. God is really putting my faith to the test, as well as my patience. I’m frustrated with a lot of things right now. I feel as though select individuals who are supposed to be on board with what I’m trying to accomplish with my career lack the same passion, drive, and work ethic that I bring to the table.
I want them to be a part of something legendary, but I don’t think they appreciate the gravity of the situation. When you make a decision to pursue a career in the arts, you have to know that the return on your investment is never immediate. Whether that investment be money or time. Sometimes you get the friends/associates who for all intents and purposes seem to believe in your mission and want to help, but their actions say otherwise. Missing deadlines, stalling, lallygagging, cancelling. They don’t have the same urgency or enthusiasm as you do. Because of the prior friendship established, you get a little uneasy when it comes to calling them out on their shortcomings in relation to the task(s) at hand. Maybe you just keep your mouth shut.
Is it just a personality flaw specific to that person? Are they lazy? Or is it because they don’t see helping you as beneficial to them in the short-term? As I stated before, the return on the investment is never immediate. The moves I’m trying to make now may not seem as epic as they would like them to be at the moment, but in the long-term grand scheme of things, these moves will put me in a greater position than I was previously in.
Some people want the instant gratification of working with someone who is already “on”, or on the brink of being “on” instead of grinding it out and building something from the ground up. Some people lack the patience to take that ride with you. People move faster when it benefits them. Calls and texts get returned in a prompt manner, emails get responded to. This is the point in every successful rapper’s career where they have to damn near beg people to get shit done. The reason we work so hard is to get to the point where we don’t have to.
