First and foremost I would like to thank Hiphopfiend.net for inviting me to write a monthly guest blog.
For those who know or don’t already know my name is Neil Doig I am 24 and I own State Of Mind Boutique in Edinburgh.

The store is totally independently run so much so that I have no staff and take care of everything from the buying, selling, banking, online store & marketing.
I tend to work 7 days a week but luckily I have a very supportive family and friends that will cover the store to give me a day off to spend with my girlfriend Naomi.
The store opened on April 1st 2009 on St Mary’s Street just off Edinburgh’s historic Royal Mile.
It was always a dream of mine to own my own store after visiting New York and seing the brands and stores there and realising there was currently not a store locally to me that was not only an outlet to buy the clothes that I liked but also able to hold events and do in store entertainment.
We are currently the exclusive stockist in Scotland of Crooks & Castles, 10DEEP & Mishka but we also stock brands such as MHI by Maharishi, Diamond Supply Co, Apaculco Gold, Famous Stars & Straps and more being added regularly.
Since opening the store I have hosted some very successful in store performances from DJ Vadim, Pugs Atomz & Sabira Jade (The Electric) & Kobi Onyame with DJ Prospect most notably all of which were filmed and documented by Breaking Point Flix.
Over the past few months I have been working closely with Breaking Point Flix to commission a series of videos called ‘My State Of Mind’ which feature well known local people from all fields such as DJ’s, Rappers, Skaters, Graffiti Artists, Photographers & Producers all of these videos can be viewed via our Youtube page www.youtube.com/stateofmindedinburgh
The final video in the series features AKIL from Jurassic 5 who came to the store whilst in Edinburgh to make a music video for an upcoming song he features on by DJ Nasty P & Profisee, the song will feature on Nasty’s upcoming album.
I am currently working on a ‘State Of Mind’ clothing line that will be sold exclusively in the store, since opening the store I have been releasing limited edition t-shirts and they have proven far more popular than I could have expected, the t-shirts have been worn by several well known people including DJ Whoo Kid (50 Cent / G-Unit DJ), Akil (Jurassic 5) and Lil Cease from Junior MAFIA wore one in the music video for the remix of the French Montana song ‘New York Minute’.
In 2011 I plan to release a full collection of clothing that will include t-shirts, sweaters, jeans, fitted & snap back hats as well as collaborating with New York artist Dice.
Having the store has allowed me to meet some of my heros this year I have met DJ Premier, DJ Clark Kent, Mark Ronson, Strech Armstrong, The Alchemist, Just Blaze, Memphis Bleek, DJ Whoo Kid, Chiddy Bang and DJ Vadim.
Over the coming months I will let you into my world and keep you up to date with all the latest goings on, brands & people who pass by the shop.
