Through College and University, my interest in Hip-Hop was solidified by my involvement in B-Boying. I spent the best part of four years trying to express myself through dancing in University basements, dining halls, community centres and unused nightclubs; I was never the best dancer, and I never expected to be, but I had fun and found my identity as well as gaining a lot of close friends.
It is for these reasons that I hate seeing films like “Step-Up” and “You Got Served”, and average dancers who gain commercial recognition on TV talent shows purely because audiences are uneducated and ignorant of Hip-Hop dance styles.
I have therefore decided that being a blog about “Hip-Hop” I will not leave the dance behind, and want to help to inform people about what Hip-Hop dance styles are, what is good, what is bad, the history etc. [Read More..]
